I was truly honored to create this logo design for the group, Hearts of a Feather.
We are a group of women who meet every other month to have fun and support one another, but to also support causes that help women, children, and/or families. We meet in someone’s home and either bring an appetizer or a bottle of wine. The concept is that by keeping the cost of this Girls’ Night Out low, we can then donate the money we would have spent going out to a restaurant, etc. to a worthy cause. I have wanted to start a fun women’s group that also had a higher purpose because I believe that when women get together they not only change each other’s lives, but they can change the world. If you would like to be a part of this group, please send me a message on Facebook with your e-mail address and I will gladly add you to our e-mail list.
The name “Hearts of a Feather” is a play on the saying “Birds of a feather flock together.” This name is a good description of a group of caring women coming together. In addition to having a name that was descriptive, I wanted the name to honor the memory of my sister, Heather Virta, who passed away 4 years ago. One of her knicknames throughout her life was “Feather.” She also had one of the biggest hearts in the world. She was such a sweet, caring person. So to me this name was also a perfect way to honor her life and to become part of her legacy.
The part of this story that was so much fun was that the founder of this group didn’t know we were creating something amazing. Cheryl Virta, the founder, also had no idea that not only was she getting a gorgeous logo, she was also getting an embroidered design.
I took her logo, digitized it and embroidered it onto a custom bag (that’s over 3ft tall) I made. This bag is used to transport the feather wreath, and frame, she takes to every HOAF event.
So here’s the logo design::
